About the artist
"Oh that Barney Rubble. What an actor!"
Leonard (Bobby Di Cicco) - Night Shift, 1982
What does the above quote have to do with who I am and what I do?
Nothing...but I think it’s one of the funniest movie lines of
all time and it makes me laugh every time I think about it. But I
digress.
Some of my happiest childhood memories were spent drawing, painting
and making "stuff." My aunt Jeanette was the first person to tell
me I had artistic talent and I am indebted to her for exposing me
to the magical world of ART at such a young age.
Throughout my early school and university years, I took just about
every art class that was offered. I remember thinking I had found a
secret loophole in the academia game, because I couldn’t
believe I actually got credit for doing something I loved.
After graduation, I spent the next 2 decades trying to secure my
place in the professional world, working in advertising, commercial
real estate, safety consulting and a myriad of other less than
fulfilling "careers." In 1990, I literally woke up one hot August
morning and had an epiphany... life’s too short to be living
on auto pilot. What I needed was a major life "do-over," but far
away from the safety and craziness of The Bay Area. So just like
that, I packed up my life and headed north to find what my heart
ached for.
Which brings me to today and what I believe is a happy beginning to
the next chapter in my life. Last year, with the unwavering support
and encouragement of "my other shoe," my life guide Taylor and some
close friends, I finally gave myself permission to do what I've
always dreamed of...call myself an artist and open my own studio. I
have found my voice with my art and it makes me happy to know my
work brings joy to those who see it.
"Aging... she discovered, was just another word for growing
— and she was (finally) at last, growing into the person she
was always meant to be."
